Some behind the scenes stuff for the latest Southern belle AJ storyline Doesn’t Matter (spoilers in the pics)

So for this short comic I wanted to try a few new things, first of all the pages are now standard american comic size, meaning I have a lot more room to fill. This also means each page I upload forwards the story more, so no more waiting a month for a single conversation to finish (sorry, I know TBOI’s Epilogue has taken an age to finish).

Next up you’ll notice I’m now using colour! Well, kinda. What we have here is a limited palette of greens and blues, it looks a little weird but I chose it to symbolize remembrance, whether that symbolism translates well will probably speak to my skills as a colour artist (up til now I’ve pretty much been the lineart guy).

Then you’ll see I’ve used fonts instead of hand-lettering, and simple oval word balloons. You could say it makes the text look more professional, but honestly I did it to save time, I do miss how hand-lettering feels but unless I can neaten it up significanty it’s going to keep effecting legibility for some readers.

Finally, there’s some more beforehand preparation going on, Twilight has a model sheet for whan she’s a filly, I wrote out the full script, drew the whole story as thumbnails then started working. Previously I’ve forgone the thumbnails, but with more space to fill I felt I needed to plan out panel placement better.

Also included is a sneak peek of the lineart of page four, since it’s some of my favorite moments in the story so far!
